The ZonesThe Hitters ZoneOne of the 1st books I read on fastpitch pitching was written by Eddie "The King" Feigner. He talked about "The No-No Zone", the zone where you should never throw. It was shaped sort of like a stop sign with the botton stretched down. The point being that hitters prefer the ball more towards the top of the strike zone than the bottom.
Forgive my graphics, but this is my rendition of what the hitter's zone looks like.
Get the drift?
They generally like the ball up more than down, and the zone angles down and in following the natural extension of the bat and arms from the shoulders.
This will be significant later when tendancies are factored in.
Now lets look at the "Blue Zone" |
