Tendancies

The 2nd ball from the bottom is the spot you were aiming at. Look at where the misses end up.

Great for batting practice - but not too healthy if you're trying to get the batters out!

Remember, this 4-pitch illustration is only hypothetical - but it gives an idea of what your odds are when you miss the target by a little bit.

Now look at the difference when the target is moved to each of the 4 corners.

Probably get 2 of 4 strikes and all are difficult to hit.

A higher percentage pitch if you're looking for a strike but you're getting a little closer to the hitter's zone.

Probably get 2 of 4 strikes and great spots for getting pop-ups and foul balls.

Uh-Oh!

This week's secret:

Work the "L". Throw to the bottom half and up the inside edge of the zone.

Many pitcher's fall in love with their "rise ball" or "spinner". It may get a lot of swinging strikes when it's out of the zone like 2 of the pitches in the illustration - but there is not much room for error. That's why this pitch accounts for the majority of home runs and big hits whenever it's hung in the hitter's zone.

Your odds are better on the inside!
