Tendancies

Righty to Righty

As a pitcher your natural tendancy is to miss high more often than low.

Unless your name is Trevor Kern or you've got your drop ball working overtime, this will be something you might want to allow for.

The 2nd tendancy is to miss to the left on the high pitches - and to the right on the low pitches. You may have noticed that left handed batters face much more "chin music" than righties, who are more likely to get hit, by a pitch, in the lower body. (Assuming that the pitcher is right handed)

This is due to the natural path that your arm follows. If your release point is a little late, the pitch will be high and likely to the left as your arm is crossing your body.

If your catcher sets up asking for a pitch in the centre of the zone - like this.

And you throw 4 pitches, 1 of which hits the target, the pattern might look something like this.

You're likely to miss high twice as often as you miss low.

This doesn't bode well when it's applied to the hitters zone!
