Lomas Knock Off Aussies

Movement beats power

The tourning Australian National U19 team suffered it's first defeat at Connaught park on Wednesday night, dropping a 2-0 match to Derek Mayson and the Lomas.

Australia's Shane Norman (right) topped the radar gun at 76 mph but Derek Mayson (left) used pinpoint control to keep the Aussie sticks at bay.

The shutout was Mayson's 3rd in a row having beaten the Horse Lake Thunder 1-0, while pitching for the Vancouver Grey Sox and then dumping the New Zealand U19 National team by a 2-0 score for the Lomas.

Jordon Taveras singled in Paul Zanni in the 2nd inning and Ryan Hawk added an insurance run on Matt Dobie's rbi single.

Exhibition play against the National Jr teams continue tonight (Friday 13) as the Kiwi's face the Grey Sox in a double header at Moody and Team Canada sees their first action against the Giants and Lomas at South Hill.

Game times at both parks is 6:30 and 8:45.

Lefty Stifles Connaught All-Stars

Aussies stretch unbeaten string to 5

Pete Collins (above) was one of many strikeout victims of Aussie lefthander Tyson Duncan (left) as the locals fell to the visitors by a score of 3-0 in the first game at Connaught park on Thurs night.

He reminded some fans of Mike "Peaches" Piechnik while other fans described him as a carbon copy of Karl Gollan.

Duncan threw a steady diet of nasty spinners that were clocked mostly in the high 60's and only occaisionally mixing in a dipper or change-up.

Next action for the Aussie's is this weekend when they travel to Comox for the Kokanee Classic.
