South Hill Giants claim "B" title

The South Hill Giants fullfulled expectations over the weekend at Softball City and claimed their first provincial title by defeating the Yard Dogs of Abbotsford 3-1 in the final game.

Rick Smith pitched both the final and the semi final, also against the Yard Dogs, which saw the Giants win by a score of 3-2.

Kevin Schellenberg was the difference in both games. In the semi, Shelly hit a double scoring two runs. In the final, the Giant lead off hitter nailed the first pitch of the game over the centre field fence and then later in the game, when the Dogs were threatening, he made a running catch in shallow left field which also doubled off the runner on third base who had already crossed home plate.

Derek Mayson suffered the loss in both games for the Abbotsford squad.

The Sooke Loggers and Farm from Abbotsford both suffered three losses along the way, neither team managing a win against the two finalists.
