Giants Win Again

Bint claims MVP

The South Hill Giants claimed their second tournament title of the season when they defeated the Parksville Red Sox 1- 0 to win the Zimmer Wheaton/Zimmer Auto Sport Invitational in Kamloops.

The final was a hard-fought battle that saw Bob Harlow of Parksville and the Giants Craig Pidcock locked in a true pitchers battle. The only run of the game came in the 5th inning when the Giants Gerry Kennedy scored from second on a Quinn Neilson single.

The Giants had dropped their opening game of the tournament 4 – 3 to the DC Arrows of Vernon and then had to win 4 successive games to claim the title, including 3 in a row on Sunday. Craig Pidcock pitched all 3 games on Sunday for the Giants, which included a no hitter against Victoria Swiftsure and a one hitter in the tournament final. For his efforts Craig was deservingly named top pitcher of the tournament.

The Giants Australian import Cameron Bint had another strong weekend and was named tournament MVP. Cameron played outstanding defense, batted .500 and wowed all with his aggressive base running.

While overall, the Giants once again displayed a strong all-around game with significant contributions coming from the entire roster throughout the weekend.

Next tournament action for the Giants will be the Vancouver Challenge on July 10, 11 & 12 at South Memorial Park. The Giants open the tournament on Friday, July 10 at 8:15 PM vs. the Denmark National Team. Preceding the Giants game the Vancouver Grey Sox will take on the Great Britain National Team at 6:30 PM.
