Sox pick Peaches
After years of suffering losses against Mike "Peaches" Piechnik, the Vancouver Grey Sox may have found the solution to repeat as National champions.
The Sox announced today that they have secured the services of the veteran lefty for the 2008 season.
Peaches seems to still have enough juice to get the job done as he demonstrated by tossing a no-no against the Sox in the Rose Cup in Portland earlier this year.
In fact, Peaches has a nearly unblemished record against the Sox, losing only once in his last 8 starts, and winning many in convincing fashion.
That success could be due at least in part to the Sox's batting lineup, which consists almost entirely of left handed batters.
In any event, the Sox are gambling that the veteran lefty still has enough gas in the tank to provide a different "look" and be a complement to ace Nick Underhill.
The Grey Sox have committed to competing in both the ISC World Tournament and the Canadian Nationals again this coming season.
Rick Smith is the only player not returning with the Sox to the Canadian's, while the club will lose Smith and Derek Mayson at the ISC's. Mayson has apparently signed with the Gremlin's south of the border while Smith has signed on with Aspen of Saskatoon.
