Nimo Strikes Again

pitches relief, then homers

Local fans were questioning the wisdom of head coach Marshall Shields when - with the score tied - he replaced control pitcher Darren Strang with fireballer Jon Nimo.

The strategy paid off however as several Giant hitters chased Nimo's pitches out of the zone and Stealer's catcher Brian Abrey did a fine job behind the plate.

The Stealers took the lead for good in the top of the 7th when Nimo blasted a home run to right center field.

Final score was 6-5 Stealers with Nimo notching the win and Jeff Kawaguchi suffering the loss.

The home team Giants split the evening games as they captured a controversial win in their first game against the Lomas.

The Giants held a one run lead in the bottom of the seventh, when Tyler Cross hit a lead off triple. The Giants retired one batter before electing to intentionally walk both Derek and Brian Mayson to load the bases and pitch to Paul Zanni.

Zanni was called out on a pitch that brought the Lomas and many fans to their feet in protest. The Loma bench claimed the pitch was low and Zanni added that it was also 4 inches outside.
