Sox Sponsoring Youth Fastball
The Richmond Boy’s Pee-wee fastball players and their coaches Marshall Shields, John Doyle and Kevin Miracle would like to thank the Vancouver Senior Men’s Grey Sox Fastball Club and their Board of Directors for stepping up and sponsoring the Richmond Pee-Wee Grey Sox team at last summers Boy’s Provincials Fastball A/B Tournament held in Richmond, BC.
With a donation from The Vancouver Grey Sox last summer each boy on the team received a custom profit Sox hat, dri fit undershirt and a batting warm-up jacket for them to wear during and after the tournament was over.
The Richmond Boy’s Grey Sox are the defending 2007 Squirt A Provincial Fastball Champion and had advance to this year’s Pee-Wee division, knowing that this years tournament would be a tough battle to win the Grey Sox played an aggressive style of fastball seeing that most of the teams that entered the Pee-Wee Provincials were either second year select teams or A teams, and while the Grey Sox were made up of mostly first year Pee-Wee players from their four Richmond house league teams, in addition to only having two weeks to prepare for the tournament following the end of their season, battle hard and left with a .500 record and a respectable fourth place finish.
After round robin play was over the tournament split into two divisions an A side and a B side.
The A side was won by a very good team from Kitamat, the Rockies that had their ace pitcher throwing at speed of 65 mph plus this dominate team also won the BC Summer Games and Western Canadians this past summer as well. The Silver went to another fine team the Sooke Thunder and the Bronze going to the Richmond A Select Mariners.
The B side was won by 2007 Squirt A Provincial Silver medalists, the Prince George Timber- wolves, who were led by their outstanding shortstop Tri Potskin, Silver went to the Fleetwood Fury and followed by the Bronze going to the Langford Lighting.
The Richmond Boy’s Fastball Association (RBFA) has over 250 boy’s playing fastball yearly and with the help from two local Men’s teams, The Vancouver Grey Sox and The Richmond Stealers, their players and coaches host a fastball skill clinics every summer for the RBFA boy’s were they learn the basic from throwing, catching, base running, pitching and batting, then the Boy’s are treated to a free lunch provided by both teams, and followed later by a game between the two senior teams.
The boy’s from the RBFA and the coaches’ look forward to this annual event and is one of the highlights of the year for everybody.
Thanks again for you support Vancouver Grey Sox,
Richmond Boy’s Fastball Association.
