White Rock Renegades Win Provincial Crown

Renegades Win 2nd Title

Double Knockout Kills Kaos

The White Rock Renegades used the long ball - hitting 7 home runs - to sweep all 4 of their games in winning their 2nd consecutive provincial Sr "A" Women's title.

This year's double knockout formula favoured the younger squad as their opponents (Team Kaos) dropped an earlier match and were forced to play 6 games, 4 on the final day!

Early in the final game with the score tied, Team Kaos threatens to take the lead but catcher Nicole Collicutt squeezes the throw from Brittany Mayer to thwart a Kaos lead.
Nadine Blackie steps up to the plate and blasts a home run to give the Renegades the lead.
Sasha "Smasha" Olsen was always a threat at the plate but the final game would not be her best performance.
Renegade left fielder Brittany Mayer makes a dazzling catch in left center field to deny Kaos again.

However Team Kaos wouldn't quit.

Kaos base runner (pitcher Carrie Aseltine) heads into third base.

Renegade third baseman Carly Moyer goes for the tag but the umpire sees the hand reach the bag first.
But the threat came up empty and a tired Team Kaos takes to the field again.

Jessica Hodge (left) had a hot bat that included 3 home runs, 2 coming in the semi final against the Islanders. Jessica also played flawless defense at shortstop all weekend.

Courtney Gill (right) lead the team in hitting, including a huge home run in the semi final. "When she is at her best she is virtually unstoppable at the plate" said assistant coach Mark Dunlop.

In the end it was Renegade pitcher Kylie Ellis who closed the door on the Kaos batters, holding them to 2 runs while scattering just 6 hits.

Ellis "paced herself" and seemed to grow stronger as the game progressed.

The veteran Kaos hitters simply couldn't string together enough hits and the young Renegade club coasted to a 6-2 win.

Head coach Cal Sunde was satisfied with the club's silver medal finish and proud of his club's 50-5 season record - but was disappointed with the new format.

"The double knockout formula really sucks" said Sunde. "It makes it far too tough for a team to come back after suffering just one loss, I favour the old round robin format."
