Ontario to be split up
The ISC meetings have finally produced a verdict on the restructuring of OOA (Out of Area) boundaries, and the effects it may have on ISC I and ISC II level teams could be interesting - especially in Ontario!
BC and Pennsylvania were also singled out as "powerhouses that need to be rebuilt" and were assigned new boundaries, which essentially has split the talent pool of each area.
The Vancouver Grey Sox are already entertaining the idea of moving their franchise to Victoria, in order to avoid any possible OOA restrictions on their pitchers. Nick Underhill, Rick Smith, and Mike Peicknik are all residents of the "Island zone".
Ontario is slated to be split into 8 areas. The Orillia Riversharks will likely face the highest increase in OOA fees but will probably retain all their players. "We're not sure on that as we don't have their roster and therefore cannot identify their addresses" said ISC boss Ken Hackmonster.
Despite some concerns, Wisconsin was not divided into sub areas - "It's just too small a state to divide" said one ISC official.
The new area boundaries are to go into effect immediately for both the the World Tournament and the intermediate level "Tournament of Champions" in time for the 2006 event in Kitchener. "Things are really going to get interesting now" said Blair Sethford, ISC II chief, "There'll be a complete reshuffling of players between now and the Tournament of Champions in Kitchener this year".
It will also level the playing field - something the ISC has been trying to foster for years. "Ontario teams finished 1-2-3-4-5 in last years tourney, that's not healthy for our sport" said Sethford.
