Bricklen Andersen started for the visitors but struggled with control and was relieved by Mike (Peaches) Piechnik, who earned the win.
Peaches, at age 45, carved the strike zone masterfully as he frustrated Sox batters, especially the lefties, with a variety of breaking balls - and hit an impressive 76mph on the Pro Stock radar gun.
On Sunday, Portland won a 3-2 thriller, scoring the winning run on a pass ball in game one.
Nick Underhill was tagged for the loss and Craig Pidcock took the win for Portland.
In the 2nd game the Sox gave the ball to Derek Mayson and the Sox responded with a convincing 8-1 win in 5 innings. Bricklen Anderson suffered the loss despite having the best velocity of all pitchers, hitting 81 mph on the Prostock radar gun.
